Graphic Organizer Summary
This assignment is to help students learn how to creatively create notes for math concepts like how to solve for slope intercept form and graph it through the use of technology. This assignment will not only help support students in learning this concept through lessons from me in class, but they will also be able to gage more specifically in examples through videos like the one below from a very useful and educational website called Khan Academy. This will be used within the unit along with my lecture. This will be a supplement to help students understand and learn more deeply how to solve for slope intercept form through what is given to them. After watching it in class, they will then have the opportunity to complete the graphic organizer in a way that is of chain of events because many mathematical equations must be solved critically step-by-step. This sense of doing notes can help students see specifically what each step they need to do is by creating their own categories/names for each step and see things separated instead of all jumbled together. There will also be a sense of collaboration within the class with having the students discussing what they saw in the video so that they may clarify what they saw in the video if they got confused at any point.
Directions
For this assignment, students will gather information from a text that I will provide for students to organize into a chain-of-events organizer. Students will be watching a video on Khan Academy of someone graphing a slope-intercept equation. We will watch the video in class together first after a quick lecture that I do in class about graphing slope-intercept equations, and after, students will discuss with one another to ensure everyone understands the concept. Students will gather information and create a chain-of-events organizer in order of what is required and the steps in order to graph a slope-intercept equation while identifying what is given in the equation. To complete the graphic organizer, there needs to be at least 5 events in the graphic organizer with at least one photo and explicit steps written out for each event. Students will be working individually on this assignment. The more creative and fun the graphic organizer looks, the better it will be appealing for readers and easier for students to remember each step, so make it fun and easy to read! Students will get to choose how they want to organize their notes as long as it is a chain-of-events organizer. This can be chosen on word document through Smart Art or students may create one on an online website.
